Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Invisalign treatment with Dr. Siju George in Muscat, Oman.

About Invisalign

What is Invisalign?

+
Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment that uses clear removable aligners to straighten teeth gradually. The aligners are custom-designed using digital treatment planning to move teeth step by step into their correct position.

How does Invisalign work?

+
Invisalign works by applying gentle, controlled pressure to specific teeth through a series of custom-made clear aligners. Each aligner moves your teeth a fraction of a millimetre. You wear each set for one to two weeks before progressing to the next, and over time your teeth move into their ideal final positions.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

+
Most treatments take 6 to 18 months, depending on the complexity of the orthodontic problem. Minor corrections can be completed in as little as 6 months, while complex cases involving significant bite correction may take up to 18–24 months. Dr. Siju will give you a realistic timeline estimate during your consultation.

Is Invisalign painful?

+
Invisalign is generally more comfortable than traditional braces. Patients may feel mild pressure for a day or two when switching to a new aligner, which indicates that the teeth are moving as planned. There are no sharp brackets or wires to irritate your cheeks or gums.

Is Invisalign as effective as traditional braces?

+
In the hands of an experienced provider like Dr. Siju George, Invisalign is equally effective as traditional braces for the vast majority of orthodontic cases. With over 10,000 cases treated using Invisalign, Dr. Siju routinely achieves results with clear aligners that match or surpass what can be achieved with metal braces.

Suitability & Conditions Treated

Can adults get Invisalign?

+
Yes. Invisalign is extremely popular among adult patients in Muscat because the aligners are discreet and removable, allowing patients to maintain their professional and social lifestyle during treatment.

Can teenagers get Invisalign?

+
Yes. Invisalign Teen is specifically designed for teenage patients and accommodates developing teeth. It includes compliance indicators (small dots that fade with wear, confirming the aligners are being worn as prescribed) and replacement aligners in case any are lost. Invisalign First is also available for younger children aged 6–10.

Can Invisalign fix crowded teeth?

+
Yes. Invisalign is effective in treating crowded teeth. The aligners gradually create space and guide teeth into proper alignment. Depending on the severity of crowding, Dr. Siju will determine whether interproximal reduction (minor reshaping between teeth) is needed to create adequate space.

Can Invisalign fix gaps between teeth?

+
Yes. Invisalign can close spaces and gaps between teeth, improving both appearance and dental function.

Can Invisalign correct a bite problem?

+
Yes. In experienced hands, Invisalign can effectively treat overbites, underbites, crossbites, and open bites. Dr. Siju George has extensive experience correcting complex bite problems with Invisalign, sometimes in combination with other appliances when required.

Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?

+
Most people with healthy teeth and gums are suitable candidates for Invisalign. The best way to find out is to book a consultation with Dr. Siju George at Wassan Dental Centre, where he will conduct a comprehensive assessment and let you know exactly what Invisalign can achieve for your specific case.

Wearing Aligners & Daily Life

How many hours per day should Invisalign be worn?

+
Aligners should be worn 20–22 hours per day for optimal results. They should only be removed for eating, drinking (except water), and oral hygiene.

Can I eat and drink with Invisalign aligners in?

+
Aligners must be removed before eating or drinking anything other than plain water. Hot drinks can warp the aligner material, and food particles can become trapped, causing discolouration and bacteria build-up. There are no food restrictions with Invisalign — simply remove your aligners, enjoy your meal, clean your teeth, then replace the aligners.

Will Invisalign affect my speech?

+
Most patients adapt quickly and notice no significant effect on their speech. Some patients experience a very slight lisp for the first day or two as their tongue adjusts to the aligners. This typically resolves within a few days.

How do I clean my Invisalign aligners?

+
Rinse your aligners with cool water every time you remove them. Clean them gently with a soft toothbrush — you can use a small amount of clear, unscented soap. Avoid hot water, toothpaste (which can be abrasive), and coloured mouthwash. Align Technology also offers official Invisalign cleaning crystals.

What if I lose or break an aligner?

+
Contact Wassan Dental Centre as soon as possible. Depending on where you are in your treatment, Dr. Siju will advise you to wear your previous aligner or move to your next one until a replacement is made. Replacement aligners can be ordered and are covered in certain packages.

After Treatment

What happens after Invisalign treatment?

+
After treatment, patients wear retainers to maintain the new position of their teeth and prevent relapse.

Do I need to wear retainers forever?

+
Retainers are worn full-time initially (similar to wearing aligners), then transitioned to night-time wear only. Most patients continue night-time retainer wear indefinitely. Teeth have a natural tendency to shift throughout life — wearing retainers as prescribed ensures your results last permanently.
